Would you approve this comment?

Here is a comment I just received (and approved) from someone I don’t know. We have all received comments that run the spectrum of rational thought and utter incoherence (usually my name is attached to those comments). This comment is in regards to my post about not knowing the difference between this and that thing, whatever they were. The post was so innocuous as to not even be funny, but apparently, this person felt the need to: A. insult me, B. show off the breadth of his wisdom and C. completely miss the point of my post.

Of course, there is no reason to defend myself to this person as 13 other commenters, and these are people whose opinion actually matters to me, didn’t have a problem with the post. 1/14 are odds I can live with. I will sleep comfortably tonight.

In the big picture, I love this comment and I wish this person left a link to his website, because I would love for all of you to pay him a visit and say Hi. I would.

So, in my “black and white” way, I wanted to ask you:

A. Do you allow ALL comments to your posts?

B. How does a negative comment make you feel?

 

Wow thats a very ignorant post. I cant believe you feel comfortable showing people how closed minded and uninformed you are.

I guess you just see names of stuff and dont even look into the substance, thats why you dont know the difference between things. whats the difference between you and a moron?

Angie Harmon/Mariska Hargitay? Two different people. Mariska is a phenomenal actress. Angie is a great actress too but she has nothing on Mariska. Mariska has a glowing spirit that Angie cant really match. I have nothing against Angie but Im partial to Mariska.

Law & Order SVU/Law & Order CI! The difference..seriously you must have never seen the show or only seen it once. SVU is one of the top rated shows, its been on for like 9 seasons! Criminal Intent, not even close! Mariska won an Emmy! and a Golden Globe! SVU is actually a good show with a steady cast. Criminal Intent sux and they cant make up their mind who they want on it!

Copyright is used to protect your body of work or artistry. Trademark is just for a name or logo.

Prison is where you go once youre convicted..youll be there for a long long time. Jail, you could be in there overnight. When you get arrested they throw you in jail before the trial even starts.

Hilary Duff/Lindsay Lohan??? Lindsay Lohan is a damn crackhead!

Psychopath is just fuckin crazy! They snap and do some crazy shit..cuz the voices in their head told them to do it! Sociopath is a person who has no real feelings or remorse. they dont even understand the concept. they do what gratifies them with no regard for other peoples feelings or the consequence. Im sure the two can go hand in hand but theres a difference.

Carpet is like PINNED down to the floor. a rug you just lay on the floor and u can pick it right back up

Jelly is disgusting jelly fake shit thats not even made of real fruit. jam spreads on the bread smooth and actually tastes good and has fruit in it.

    TO answer YOUR question and I shall use planned ignoring for the “person” For the most part I allow all comments. Attack my writing or the subject. Attack me? One get flamed two pay no mind.

    Depends on the comment. Negativity just makes me wonder. Doesnt surprise me. I expect them.

    well i would have felt so sorry for the person that i too would have approved the comment… after all,, i am sure the collection of innate trivia is a valid aspiration if you know you pretty much suck at anything else….and i need to know,,,,,who the hell ever saw a hog with horns?????

    I wonder how many of those he/she had to Google. I also wonder how much time that took him/her away from watching CI and SVU and taking note of their delicate intricacies and subtle differences.

    For the record, pigs and hogs are the same thing. A bore in any medium is still a bore, though.

    Oh, and to answer your question, yes, I would have approved it and blogged about it, just like you did. As for how it would have made me feel… I think I would have started off mildly annoyed, then quickly transitioned into proud to have aroused some much emotion in a single person with one fun post. After that, I would have been depressed, knowing 1/14th of my audience are morons.

    You finally made it, Dan! You’ve reached someone outside your core group of fans. When you illicit such violent, negative feelings in someone that’s when you know you’re doing your job right.

    Yes, I allow all my comments, but I haven’t broken through to the haters, yet. I have had a few comments that show some people just don’t “get” me. It makes me feel sorry for people who can’t distinguish between humor and reality. It must be tremendously painful to walk around with a stick up their ass 24/7.

    When I do get haters, I plan to mock them mercilessly.

    I wish I had as much free time on my hands as your commenter does. That particular comment must have taken a lot of time and energy!

    I generally let all comments through unless they are obscene. I feel bad when I get a negative comment, but it hasn’t happened often.

    I really don’t know what I would’ve done. But I like how you handled it. Glad you had so many other comments before that one. Just ignore it.

    i had a similar reponse to a light hearted joke i made about Mark Hamil once.

    and anyway, bacteria don’t cause viruses damnit. Bacteria are single celled organisms whereas viruses are smaller organisms and more difficult to treat (i think)

    First of all Dan, seriously, it’s kind of cool that some troll (who uses “sux” instead of normal English and also a myriad of unnecessary swear words)actually read your post and was jostled enough by your words to respond. I get random hits all the time but the only comment I’ve ever received from someone I didn’t know was Brazilian spam asking me to join some webring and pay for it. I’d be sort of excited to see a comment from a real person who doesn’t know me from cre8buzz or NaBlo or my personal life, even if it was a spiteful list of useless gibberish, half of which was opinion based and/or incorrect.

    Oh and my answers to your questions are:
    A. I allow all comments cause I’m lucky if I get 4 a day, so even negative ones would make me look popular.
    B. Seeing as how my mommy loves me, I’ve never really gotten a negative comment. I hope one day I get the oppurtunity to smash some troll with my mighty, flaming Blogaxe of Doom, but until then I’ll just frolic in the positive.

    I would have approved it too. It’s just something else for the readers to be amused by. It’s like the dessert after the main course. I wonder if they’ll see this post too but they’re probably too busy watching Law & Order…

    ‘Wow’ needs a life. I don’t have a blog but do enjoy reading the blogs of others…but IF I had a blog,
    1)I’d allow all comments except those that might be considered really venemous or intended to incite some ugly behavior
    2)I’d shake my head and wonder what the poor person’s childhood was like…ritualistic beatings? Mind numbing Barney flicks? Onions and liver for breakfast???

    I would not approve anon comments unless it was constructive or at least polite. Anon + Rude = BIG chicken.

    The fact that this individual knows a good deal about Hollywood, prison, and psychopaths might just speak volumes.

    (People in The Sun, being home-schooled during high school (not my choice) I can attest, we are smart. Thank you. We can also make our own nuclear submarine out of two legos and a brick of cheese. Anyone who tells you differently is a crackhead.)

    I don’t delete any of them, I do, however, point out where the commenter falls short. I feel that they are just looking for attention, so I give it to them. Usually this type of comment is the result of a shallow mind, with absolutely no sense of reading comprehension. I figure, if someone is going to take that much time to comment on one of my blathering posts, they should at least read it, and understand it before they do…otherwise, they are just fodder for my twisted sense of humor.

    Ps: Lunar Moths are beautiful, psychopaths are usually highly intelligent and calculated, hogs have tusks not horns, carpet is anything that covers a floor, there is no difference between any of the L&O series…and anyone with THAT MUCH knowledge about the Hollywood scumbag elite that they can actually differentiate, should really read a book once in a while…and I don’t mean “Go Fug Yourself”.
