My family eats Potatoes, Tomatoes and Cheese, because at one point my mom jumped on a see-saw and split my uncle's tongue in half. Once the stitches healed, they had to think up some soft foods that weren't milkshakes. Hence, tomatoes, potatoes and cheese. It is mashed potatoes, on a plate, with three slices of American cheese (deli-sliced, at least) smothered in hot, whole, canned tomatoes. When you mix it up it looks like vomit. But it is so GOOD. I want some now. Must buy tomatoes! And cheese. And potatoes.

I have loved raw oysters since I was a kid, and I still do. I prefer the horseradish and a smidge of ketchup and a squirt of lemon for my sauce, and I eat it on a saltine cracker. Big yum.

Continuing with the family theme, beets are on the menu. Not cooked beets, but pickled beets. My father, brother and I all adore them. My sister thinks we are deranged. I can even eat them out of the can with vinegar. One of my best friends once told me that was the only thing she didn't like about me--having to watch me eat beets off the salad bar. Makes me smile.

My favorite disgusting food has family ties as well. My grandparents were full blooded German, and one of the staples of our Thanksgiving dinner to this day is sweet & sour cabbage. (Red cabbage cooked with bacon, vinegar and a little sugar.) I love it. But most think it sounds disgusting.
