Why are hearts not heart-shaped?
I assume I am not the first to think of this and it smells a lot like a George Carlin or Steven Wright observation, but it still makes me wonder where does the heart-shape come from.
My 5 year old, going through a mini calendar fetish, came up to me and said
Daddy, the first day I knew was October 31st. I remember it because I didn’t know any days before that.

In the movies, why do people lick the tip of their pencil before they write?
What purpose does that serve? I do not believe I have ever put a pencil in my mouth and yet the lead has never failed me. But in the movies, there is always a sassy waitress snapping gum, holding an order pad in their hand and then they lick their pencil.
