Imponderable

Does anyone know why an English muffin is completely inedible in its raw state? I always have the choice to toast bread or not, but what is it about an English muffin that makes it taste like….like a raw English muffin? Also, is an English muffin actually from England? What is one supposed to taste like as I am sure that Thomas’ brand can’t be “authentic.” Is a true English English muffin more or less edible raw?

Hi there – Just came across your blog on BlogExplosion. I’m from England so I think I’m authorised to tell you that there’s no such thing as an English Muffin over here. Honestly. I’ve heard about this strange discrepancy before. I guess it’s a bit like french fries – they don’t have them in France.

I’m from England too (but live in Ohio). I think you may mean crumpets (or pieclets as we used to call them). They are nasty raw but when toasted? Lovely. In fact, I have some in my fridge right now and talking about them ismaking me want to eat one.

    So I will!

I’m not in England, I’m just writing to say that raw English muffins should be a form of torture. I love all the books in your library.
